Chinese artist Xu Bing gains international recognition

One leading light in Chinese contemporary art is Xu Bing. Bing showed some of his most recent works at the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University.
CCTV America’s Nitza Soledad Perez filed this report from Miami.

Bing was immersed in the artistic fever that ensued after a cultural revolution in China, but one day he started questioning his own passions.

“I really wanted to make a piece, making my own book, explain about my idea,” Bing said.

Then he created his most famous piece, “The Book from the Sky.”

The piece took four years to produce and featured more than 4,000 illegible Chinese characters he invented. He moved to New York two years later.

In “The Book from the Sky”, the words are just an image, but in “Book from the Ground,” the images become words.

He even developed a software that allows the user to transform words into icons.

“I don’t care about art themselves, I care about what I ‘m doing, I like my work is really creative, I will do something never did before, and really benefit for the society,” Bing said.

His cleverness and wit have been evident. What looks like Chinese characters are actually English language words.

After 18 years in the United States, Bing returned to China.

“Why I’m back to China It is a country, a totally new country. Totally different from the 1990’s when I was living there,” Bing said. “China is a really interesting country to live and work there because it is a place totally really different with lots of questions, but also a lot of energy.”

He hinted his next project may feature Qatar, but he did say that he will produce a piece for the World Cup.
More of his work is set to release in 2022.
