Harsh criticism for South Africa’s controversial leader

The Heat

Opposition lawmakers said President Jacob Zuma is a corrupt and broken man who has caused the South African economy to slow.
The criticism follows a chaotic scene this month inside the House of Parliament in Cape Town during the “State of the Nation” address.
Police physically removed members of the Economic Freedom Fighters party from the chamber after challenging President Zuma to answer corruption charges.

CCTV’s Angelo Coppola filed this report from Johannesburg.

The Heat discussed the political crisis facing South Africa and the future of its leadership with two experts:

  • Jennifer Cooke, the director of the Africa Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
  • Simon Barber, a columnist for the online edition of South Africa’s leading daily newspaper, “Business Day.”
  • Dr. Kenneth Mwenda, an adjunct professor of Law at American University.
