Lantern Festival activities in east China mark end of Spring Festival

Many cities across China held folk activities on Thursday to celebrate the traditional Lantern Festival, which marks the last day of the Spring Festival events.

In north China’s Tianjin Municipality, visitors visited the Yangliuqing Lantern Fair to watch the lanterns designed in different shapes, particularly those in the shape of Spring Festival pictures.

“The lanterns are set quite well. We are very excited. As photographers, we come here every year, but the lanterns are designed in new ways each year,” a man with the surname Zhang said.

In Beijing, folk artisans led the visitors to a bazaar which imitates a famous bazaar during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795). Visitors there could enjoy an atmosphere of ancient China.

In Pengxi County, southwest China’s Sichuan Province, as a tradition, local residents walked in lines to the field, each holding a special lantern to pray for health and prosperity.
