The past year has seen the drone business soar. China-based DJI and Paris-based Parrot currently lead the industry, but many competitors are also set for lift-off.

Highlights:

  • Guangzhou, China-based Ehang has developed the Ghost Drone, which can be steered by tilting a mobile device, and brought it to America.
  • Simplicity helped Ehang raise $860,000 on crowdfunding site Indiegogo $ and ten million from both Chinese and international venture capitalists.
  • Co-founder Derrick Xiong says 90-percent of Ehang’s sales come from the U.S. and Europe because drone users have more space than in big Chinese cities.
  • In the U.S. the Federal Aviation Administration recently proposed rules that would require users to keep non-recreational drone flights within their visual line of sight at all times.
