US police and race relations in America

The Heat

The shooting of an unarmed African American teenager by a white police officer in Wisconsin over the weekend has raised new questions about the treatment of blacks by police in the United States. It comes just days after the U. S. Justice Department released a blistering report on police conduct in Ferguson, Missouri; but is this an isolated incident or is it part of a greater problem? Many in the U.S. are weighing in with their opinions, including President Obama.

CCTV’s John Gilmore reported.

The Heat discusses this with four guest:

  • Redditt Hudson, former police officer and the board chairman of the Ethics Project.
  • Joe Madison, a talk show host and recently interviewed U.S. President Barack Obama.
  • Bernard Parks, a former chief of police for the Los Angeles Police Department and is now an LA City Councilman.
  • Grace Flores-Hughes, who has worked with the U.S. Justice Department and writes about Latino issues.

The discussion continues.
