China’s top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng on Friday called for continuing efforts to pool “positive energy” to contribute to the country’s development during his speech to wrap up the CPPCC’s annual session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.

The CPPCC Chairman said that political advisors must “unwaveringly strengthen confidence in socialism with Chinese characteristics” in order to implement the “Four Comprehensives”.

Unveiled by Chinese President Xi Jinping last year, the “Four Comprehensives” include: to comprehensively build a “moderately prosperous” society, deepen reform, advance the rule of law, and strictly govern the Party.

Anti-corruption remained a hot topic at this year’s CPPCC annual session.

President Xi pledged to continue to advance the battle against corruption, noting “rotten trees must be trimmed, the sick trees cured and the crooked trees straightened.”

The slowing economy was also a major focus of the talks. After last year saw just 7.4 percent growth, the weakest since the 1990s, political advisors have called for less government intervention in business and stronger emphasis on innovation.

Chinese Premier Li Keqiang reiterated the vision for a more healthy and effective economy that is powered by the consumption and the services sector.

During the sessions, members submitted 5,857 proposals about the country’s economic and social development as of Thursday. The issues cover every corner of Chinese society.

Major topics include raising living standards, greater public access to cultural activities, and new ways to ensure smooth economic transformation amid the country’s slowdown.
