It was a stunning turnaround after polls showed a tight race heading into election day, but with nearly all the votes counted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party appears to have won as many as 30 seats in Israel’s parliament and is in a strong position to form a coalition government with its nationalist and religious allies.

Just days before the election, the Israeli Prime Minister stunned the international community declaring he no longer supports a Palestinian state, putting the peace process in jeopardy. Add to that the disagreement with the United States and other allies over how to deal with the threat from Iran’s nuclear program and Israel finds itself increasingly at odds with its friends around the world.
