The Heat discusses an Israel after new election results

The Heat

It was a stunning turnaround after polls showed a tight race heading into election day, but with nearly all the votes counted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party appears to have won as many as 30 seats in Israel’s parliament and is in a strong position to form a coalition government with its nationalist and religious allies.

Just days before the election, the Israeli Prime Minister stunned the international community declaring he no longer supports a Palestinian state, putting the peace process in jeopardy. Add to that the disagreement with the United States and other allies over how to deal with the threat from Iran’s nuclear program and Israel finds itself increasingly at odds with its friends around the world.

CCTV’s Stephanie Freid filed this report on the latest details on the Israeli election.

The Heat discussed this with Boaz Bismuth, an Israeli commentator and the country’s former Ambassador to Mauritania.

Just days before this week’s Israeli election, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu disavowed his support for a two-state solution saying he no longer favors creation of a Palestinian state.

For more on this, The Heat interviewed Hussein Ibish, a senior fellow with the American Task Force on Palestine.
