Venezuelan government supporters are spreading out across the country in search of signatures. Supporters of President Nicolas Maduro have launched an international campaign, including a domestic petition drive, demanding U.S. President Barack Obama declassify the country as a security threat. CCTV America’s Martin Markovits filed this report from Caracas.

Highlights:

  • Maduro is hoping to rally massive public support after Washington levied sanctions on seven high-level government officials accused of violating human rights during anti-government protests.
  • In the past week, demonstrations against the United States have erupted across Venezuela. They are protesting Obama’s recent actions against the Maduro government.
  • The U.S. is still Venezuela’s biggest trading partner and largest buyer of its oil.
