Beijing to launch its fifth International Film Festival

Beijing has begun to promote its fifth International Film Festival. In April, a wide range of films from across the world will be shown at film-related institutions and universities. China also launched the Silk Road Film and Television Project that honors its Silk Road history.

Highlights:

  • A press conference on Thursday revealed that more than 360 films will enter the final selection of the fifth Beijing International Film Festival.
  • The films will be shown at 30 film-related institutions and universities. Preparations for the event began in August 2014.
  • The organizers invited Marc Muller, the former director of the International Venice Film Festival, as the chief consultant. Muller was responsible for the selection of films from overseas.
  • Some of the selections include ‘Bird Man’, ‘The Imitation Game’ and ‘Still Alice’. Films were selected from more than 1,000 films from 50 countries around the world.
  • The film festival will be held from April 16-23.
  • The Silk Road Film and Television Project will be held March 19-22 in Beijing .
  • The project will produce a series of films, TV series and documentaries that echo China’s ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiatives, namely the ‘Silk Road Economic Belt’ and ’21st Century Maritime Silk Road’.
  • The Silk Road Film and Television Project’s productions will reflect the life of people in north west China.
