The Heat

Tensions between the United States and Venezuela are at a high point. Why has the troubled relationship worsened?

For months now tensions between the United States and Venezuela have been escalating. And, earlier this month, the U.S. imposed sanctions on some Venezuelan officials, even going so far as to declare Venezuela a national security threat. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has denounced the U.S. action as aggression against his country. He’s launched a campaign to gather 10 million signatures demanding that U.S. President Obama revoke the sanctions order.

CCTV’s Martin Markovits in Caracas provided an update.

CCTV discussed the troubled relationship between the United States and Venezuela with:

Eric Farnsworth is the Vice President of the Americas Society and Council of the Americas.
Francisco Dominguez in London is the head of the Latin American Studies Research Group at the University of Middlesex. He is also secretary of the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign.
