      • Hotel bookings in January were down nearly five percent.
      • Across the city 14,000 new rooms are being created – a 13 percent year-on-year growth.
      • 109 million tourists from China visited last year. 175 million are expect by 2019.

New York museums work to attract Chinese tourists

New York City is one of the most desirable tourist destinations in the world. And more than a million Chinese tourists expected to visit New York by 2018 thanks to looser visa rules. Now some of the city's most popular museums are prepping to reap all the benefits. CCTV America's Shraysi Tandon reported this story from New York.

      • According the U.S. Travel Association, the average Chinese tourist spends a little over $7,000, per person, per trip.
      • Last year, over 200,000 Chinese tourists visited the MET, and that number is only expected to increase by the end of the year.
      • Given the influx of Chinese tourists, museums like the MET are making sure these visitors are well accommodated.
      • The museums also host exhibits that appeal to China’s growing fascination with Western art.

Chinese receive more tourist visas to US

China is the second-largest location behind Mexico for the United States to issue nonimmigrant visas, most of which are visitor visas to tourists, according to the U.S. State Department.
