BRICS chief justices agree to enhance judicial cooperation

The 2015 BRICS Justices forum kicked off in the city of Sanya in China’s southernmost province of Hainan, bringing together the Chief Justices from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. On Saturday, they passed the “Sanya Statement”, aimed at boosting judicial cooperation among BRICS countries.

  • The BRICS leaders noted that the development of information technology is changing everything from how products are made to how people live their lives. In response, the judges said the courts must also adapt, to ensure justice continues to be carried out efficiently.
  • The Sanya Statement, signed by all five chief justices of the BRICS countries, calls for pragmatic judicial cooperation among countries to improve the rule of law and achieve economic growth under the framework of sustainable development.
