State funeral held for Singapore’s founding father

Dignitaries from around the globe gathered in Singapore on Sunday for the funeral of former Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew. The funeral marked the end of a week of mourning in the city state that Lee had guided from Independence in 1965 to become one of the richest nations in the world. And Singaporeans braved torrential downpours to bid farewell to the man known as the father of the nation. CCTV’s Tony Cheng filed this report from Singapore.

Lee Kuan Yew is mostly remembered as the founding father and architect of modern Singapore, and history will not forget the role he played in developing ties with China and the U.S.. For more on this, CCTV spoke to Jia Xiudong in Beijing.
