The Heat

Explosions and flames fill the skies of the capital city of Sana’a, Yemen. For the sixth day, a Saudi Arabia led-coalition is targeting Houthi fighters in an effort to reclaim the government. With the support of nine Arab Countries, Saudi Arabia is fighting from the air and at the border in an effort to restore Yemen’s government. Shiite Houthis, reportedly backed by Iran, seized the capital of Sanaa last September and have continued to make gains to the south, forcing President Hadi to flee to Aden and ultimately seek refuge in Saudi Arabia. The situation has prompted the United Nations, China, India and Pakistan to evacuate hundreds of workers and their families.

To discuss the conflict, The Heat spoke to Emad Shahin. He’s a visiting professor of Political Science at Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
