In China, it is very common to see people waiting for hours in hospitals to see doctors. Now four provinces are introducing medical reforms to help deal with long wait times. East China’s Anhui province is the first to make changes. Xu Geng filed this report from Anhui, China.

Highlights:

  • To reduce that workload and provide better service for patients, top-level hospitals have decided to cut registration numbers by half and send experienced medical staff to smaller institutions.
  • Hospitals in Anhui have cut the 15 percent markup for medicine, while raising fees for treatment and other medical expenses.
