Thousands gather for ancestor worship ceremony

In a culture thousands of years old, sites of historical and spiritual importance are everywhere. But in China’s northern Shanxi province, one county holds a special significance. Tens-of-thousands from across China and from around the world are visiting to pay tribute to their ancestors. CCTV’s Hu Chao filed this report.

Highlights:

  • This is the 25th Hongtong Grand Scholar Tree Culture Festival.
  • The festival that pays tribute to those who left Hongtong County many years ago under royal diktat.
  • The Hongtong Grand Scholar Tree Park covers an area of around 200,000 square meters.
  • Park officials say the number of visitors on tomb-sweeping day has reached nearly 150,000. So far this year, the park has received over 10,000 overseas Chinese visitors.
