Walter Vergara of WRI on restoring the world’s forests

Americas Now

In the past several years, some 650 million hectares of land have been degraded or destroyed across Latin America. A new forest restoration effort is underway to repair some of the damage inflicted. It’s a multinational project called Initiative 20×20, sponsored by the World Resources Institute (WRI) in Washington.

Initiative 20×20 has the ambitious goal of restoring 20 million hectares of land in Latin America and the Caribbean by the year 2020. To explain the depth, utility and cost of this enormous enterprise, Americas Now invited Walter Vergara, a Senior Fellow at WRI for an interview with Elaine Reyes.
