Fujian factory blast: more residents evacuated

Firefighters in China’s Southeastern Fujian province have finally put out a chemical plant fire that kept reigniting. They battled the blaze for more than two days and evacuated thousands of people. CCTV’s Lin Nan filed this report from Zhangzhou city.

Highlights:

  • Another oil storage tank went up in flames on Wednesday morning. Fires in three other oil storage tanks had been extinguished on Tuesday, but flared up again.
  • More than 14,000 local residents in nearby towns had been withdrawn to emergency points by Wednesday morning.
  • Authorities say they are keeping a close eye on the environmental impact of the blaze and will release an air and water quality report as soon as possible.
