Beijing police detain 2 over drag-racing supercar smashup

After a real-life “Fast and Furious” car race in downtown Beijing, two people have been detained on suspicion of dangerous driving, local authorities said Monday.

The accident on Saturday night, saw a red Ferrari, driven by someone with the surname Yu, 20, race against a green Lamborghini, driven by someone with the surname Tang, 21, on Datun Road, Chaoyang District.

Both vehicles were severely damaged when they careered through a tunnel guardrail, before smashing into walls at speeds of more than 160 km/h, according to the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau.

Pictures of the incident showed the Lamborghini almost completely destroyed, with only the driver’s cockpit still intact. The Ferrari appeared to suffer less but still serious damage.
