Beijing Int’l Film Festival rolls out the red carpet

The Beijing International Film Festival is one of China’s youngest film festivals, but it certainly knows how to dazzle every year. The fifth edition of the festival kicked off at the International Convention and Exhibition Center in Yanqi Lake Beijing. CCTV’s Julian Waghann filed this report from the red carpet in Beijing.

Highlights:

  • After an eight-year hiatus from the silver-screen, during which he served as California governor, Arnold is making a come back as “Terminator” in the upcoming “Terminator Genisys”. He is also playing a father figure in horror-thriller “Maggie.”
  • The French director of the Sci-fi flick “Lucy,” Luc Besson will appear at this year’s festival on the international jury panel. The director will chair the panel for the festival’s top prize., the Tiantan Award.
  • The Tiantan award hands out prizes each year in 10 categories, including best feature, director, actor, actress, supporting actor, supporting actress, screenply, cinematography, music and visual effects.
  • This year fifteen movies have been nominated for the Tiantan Award. The festival also includes a film market, forums, a carnival and a panorama where 300 films will be screened out of competition in over 30 theaters throughout the captial.
  • The Beijing International Film Festival runs from April 16th to 23rd.
