In Canada it is a crime to recreationally consume marijuana, yet medical marijuana has been legal in the country for almost 15 years. The Canadian government is trying to change the way patients purchase their pot these days. CCTV's Kristiaan Yeo filed this report from Toronto.

Highlights:

• In Canada pain sufferers can get a prescription for cannabis just as they could for a strong narcotic.
• Since 2001, patients that were prescribed pot were allowed to grow their own supply, or they could pay a professional grower to do so on their behalf.
• Cannabis dispensaries – so-called compassion clubs – popped up across Canada connecting patients with growers, but the government has changed the rules potentially putting an end to this practice, prompting a legal challenge by patients.
• With a federal election in Canada in 2015, the legal status of cannabis is likely to be a big topic for many Canadian voters.
