Yemen strikes go on despite Saudi word

World Today

Just hours after Saudi Arabia announced a halt to its month-long bombing campaign over Yemen, airstrikes resumed over the city of Taiz, amid new fighting on the ground. Saudi officials said there would be no immediate ceasefire until Houthi rebels pulled back from territory they had captured. In the meantime, the effort to reach a political agreement goes on. CCTV’s Nathan King filed this report.

Highlights:

  • Saudi Arabia now says Operation Decisive Storm won’t end until Houthi rebels withdraw from major towns and other “certain conditions” are met.
  • Exiled Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi spoke on television Tuesday from exile in Saudi Arabia and praised the Saudi-led intervention.
  • The U.S. has warned Iran that delivery of weapons to Houthi rebels would go against the international arms embargo. A search of the ships if they enter Yemeni territorial waters has not been ruled out.
