No signs of rain for Cape Town farmers

World Today

Farmers in the Western Cape’s agricultural sector in South Africa are getting increasingly concerned about a spell of dry weather that’s affecting their crops. At this time of the year, the region usually experiences rains and cold fronts after a long and dry summer. That wet weather is critical for irrigating their crops, but in 2015 there have been no signs of any rain. Water levels in dams are around 50 percent or below. That makes things much more difficult, since both farmers and residents around the Western Cape use the same water source. CCTV’s Travers Andrews filed this report from Cape Town.
