The Heat discusses beating Ebola in West Africa

The Heat

The Heat interviewed the Presidents of Liberia and Sierra Leone on the fight against the dreaded disease of Ebola, as well as economic growth in the region and West Africa’s engagement with China.

It’s been a harrowing time for both Liberia and Sierra Leone, with a decade of civil war, thousands dead, many more homeless and their economies in tatters.

To understand how both nations engineered a remarkable turnaround, CCTV’s Wang Guan spoke with both Liberia’s and Sierra Leone’s presidents.

Guan first interviewed Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the President of Liberia. She’s Africa’s first elected female head of state.

Sierra Leone today is a far cry from the nation it was a few years ago. Battered by conflict and disease, it faced a daunting task to restore its institutions. In just a few years, it has transitioned to a functioning democracy and its economy is growing at an impressive rate. Guan spoke with President Ernest Bai Koroma about his country’s progress and the challenges ahead.
