World Today

Of all the events to be commemorated this year 70 years since the end of the second world war the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp in Germany may be among the most painful. U.S. troops liberated and filmed conditions at the camp at the end of April 1945. This weekend Germany and survivors from the camp marked the grim anniversary. CCTV’s Nathan King filed this report.

Highlights:

  • More than 200,000 people were held and over 40,000 prisoners died.
  • Survivors from Dachau attended the ceremony and paid tribute to the German attitude remembering and learning the lessons of Dachau – one American liberator of the camp.
