The Heat discusses the UK election results

The Heat

David Cameron and his Conservative party are the big winners in British elections. And the Scottish Nationalist Party makes history. What are the implications for the United Kingdom both at home and abroad?

British Prime Minister David Cameron will lead his country for a second term after his party’s victory in last week’s general elections in the United Kingdom. The Conservative party won an outright and unexpected majority. The other big winner was the Scottish Nationalist Party. It now has more seats in the House of Commons than ever before.

Could that result in another attempt at Scottish independence? There are also questions about Britain’s role as a member of the European Union with a referendum set to take place before the end of 2017.

CCTV’s Richard Bestic provided this update from London.

The Heat began its discussion with Simon Marks. He is president and chief correspondent for Feature Story News. And James Mitchell a professor with the politics and international relations school at the University of Edinburgh.

The discussion was joined by Holger Stark. He is the Washington Bureau Chief for Der Spiegel Magazine.
