U.S- Cuba relations and their impact on Latin America

Cuba

For Cuba and the United States, the impact of their new era of diplomacy has been touted by both countries. CCTV’s Nitza Soledad Perez explored what the impact will be on Latin America.

Highlights:

  • Brazil is spearheading a billion-dollar project to modernize Cuba’s deep water port at Mariel, and also build a 180 square-mile special industrial zone.
  • At the recent World Economic Forum, Latin American leaders, including Mexico’s president, said they will help Cuba in its economic transformation-possibly at their own expense.
  •  One estimate from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said the embargo costs the U.S. around $1.2 billion  in lost business every year-around twice the estimated losses suffered by Cuba.
