EU approves military strikes against smuggling boats

European Union foreign affairs and defense ministers have approved the start of preparations for military strikes aimed at destroying boats used by people-smugglers in war-torn Libya. But CCTV’s Jack Barton reported from Brussels that the start of military operations could still be weeks away.

Currently an estimated eight thousand Rohningya refugees are crowded into poorly maintained vessels on the Andaman sea. Many are running out or have run out of food and water, and they’re being turned away from the coasts of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, as our correspondent Tony Cheng reports.
