US military base sends live anthrax to multiple locations

World Today

U.S. health officials are trying to figure out how a military base in the U.S. state of Utah may have mistakenly sent live anthrax to at least nine other U.S. states, and internationally. One shipment reached an American base in South Korea. CCTV’s Roee Ruttenberg filed this report from Washington.

More details:

  • U.S. defense officials say they actually intended to send dead or inactivated spores of the bacteria, which could be used in biological warfare.
  • The U.S. Centers for Disease Control said it was checking for any risk to the public despite the U.S. military’s quick statement that there is none.
