Highlights:

  • A recent study by the University of Buenos Aires into football finances, commissioned by the Argentine Football Association, reveals that player transfers account for just eight percent of clubs’ net income.
  • The report found that the main source of income for Argentinean Clubs comes from ticket sales and membership fees. While the government owns the T.V. rights, it only contributes 30 percent of profits, while sponsorship contributes 22 percent.
  • Argentine football lags way behind the Brazilian and European leagues. In Europe, sponsorship deals are the largest source of income, while in Brazil television rights account for nearly half of the income. In Argentina, clubs belong to its members.
