Nigeria’s new President, Muhammadu Buhari, has inherited Africa’s largest economy and a serious security issue. During his inaugural address, Buhari called Boko Haram his most pressing issue and said he plans to “subdue” the terror group. Buhari has governed Nigeria before, when he was in power three decades ago after he led a military coup. Since that time, he has become a democrat and once headed a petroleum trust. That experience could come in handy, because Nigeria is Africa’s top crude oil exporter.  Nii Akuetteh, a scholar and policy analyst who specializes in African affairs, discusses Nigeria’s new president and the country’s future.
