China’s military delivers message on Asia Pacific security

World Today

The Shangri-la Dialogue, an annual Asia-Pacific security forum, has wrapped up in Singapore. A senior Chinese military official said it is important to build up a sense of common destiny in the region, with Beijing willing to control risks and tensions in the South China Sea. CCTV’s Han Peng reports filed this report from Singapore.

Highlights:

  • At last year’s Shangri-la Dialogue, China and the US criticized each other over differences, turning the forum into a series of debates that solved little problems.
  • This year, there has been much more constructive and engaging discussion between the major powers.
  • China says all nations in the Asia Pacific are in the same boat, and no one will benefit from conflicts.
