Official residence status for foreigners living in China is historically tough to obtain. For years, so-called “green cards” have been limited to a small number of high-tech experts or high level workers who’ve invested a half million dollars or more in a Chinese company. That’s about to change. In a bid to boost its foreign talent and reverse its ‘brain drain’, China is expanding green card benefits to include a path to permanent residency.
