The President of China and Secretary General of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping met with Aung San Suu Kyi, chairperson of Myanmar’s opposition party in Beijing on Thursday afternoon, in her first visit at the invitation of the CPC.

The meeting was not a state visit but a discussion between party members. Xi Jinping proposed that the two countries continue to work together and honor their joint friendship. He added that China would always view the two countries’ ties from a strategic and long-term perspective, regardless of domestic changes.
