Government comes under fire for lack of meaningful effort

World Today

Australia is being criticized over its efforts to tackle climate change. The UN Former Secretary General called Australia a climate change “free rider”, citing its low carbon reduction targets in comparison to the rest of the world. This, as a new Australian study suggests climate change is behind some types of extreme weather. CCTV’s Greg Navarro filed this report from Sydney.

More Details:

  • Australia’s Climate Council was originally formed by the government in 2011 with a very specific mission.
  • That government funded commission came to an end just two years later when Australia’s current government took office.
  • An Australian study released this week found the warming planet is retaining more water – and creating more frequent flash flooding.
  • The Climate Council now operates as a non-profit.
