Earlier in 2015, The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. presented an arts festival called “Iberian Suite.” It was described as a “global arts remix” and featured performances in theater, dance, music, fashion and literature. They all had one thing in common. All the work focused on Portugal and Spain. And the impact those countries have had on the rest of the world.

“Americas Now” attended some of the performances including one of the highlights of the festival. It was concert featuring one of Mexico’s top talents. She’s a female singer. But not just any female singer. A cultural icon. In fact, many call her “The Voice of Mexico.” With her songs, she has united the country through times of political turmoil and natural disasters, like earthquakes.

In her concert at The Kennedy Center, Eugenia paid tribute to the great female voices of South America. She said she wanted to let the music tell their stories and highlight their strength, endurance and solidarity.

For this week’s Urban Voices, Americas Now presents the internationally acclaimed Eugenia Leon.
