The Heat discusses the effectiveness of Western sanctions

Sanctions have long been a mainstay of Western foreign policy against Russia. But it is unclear if these sanctions are effective or not.

The European Union is extending sanctions against Russia. Iran could have Western economic sanctions reduced as it nears a possible nuclear agreement with world powers. And the U.S. is opening the possibility of renewing economic ties with Cuba after imposing sanctions for more than 50 years. Sanctions are the go-to foreign policy strategy used to choke a so-called “bad actor” on the world stage. CCTV America’s Daniel Ryntjes reports.

The Heat continues the discussion on western foreign policy with the following guests:

  • Peter Kuznick, co-author of “The Untold History of the United States”.
  • Vladimir Golstein, a professor of Slavic studies at Brown University, who joined from Rhode Island.
  • Cristina Escobar, a Cuban journalist, who joined us from Havana.
