An epidemiologist’s view on MERS outbreaks

29 deaths attributed to the MERS outbreak have been reported in South Korea with 180 cases of MERS in total. Besides the human toll, there is also the economic impact. The South Korean government is forking over $13 billion to try to boost the crippled economy. Epidemiologist Trish Perl investigated MERS in Saudi Arabia shortly after that country had an outbreak of its own. CCTV’s Mike Walter spoke to Doctor Trish Perl about the lessons learned and how far we still have to go to understand MERS.
