The economic crisis in the U.S. peaked in 2008 when the real estate market crashed. Millions of homeowners were underwater with their mortgages as home values tanked and that led to a record number of foreclosures. It’s been nearly seven years since the peak of the housing crisis, which means many of those who lost their property can now get back into the market.
