Venezuelan cocoa becomes bright spot in dismal economy

The price of cocoa, the raw material of chocolate, has been booming in recent years-partly owing to increased demand from Asian consumers. The biggest price growth has been in the rare “aroma beans”, used in the finest chocolate. That’s been good news for small producers in Venezuela. The Latin American country’s wider economy is in the midst of a sharp downturn.
