Song Andong becomes first Chinese-born player picked in NHL draft

This year’s NHL draft got underway in the Miami suburbs Friday with the Edmonton Oilers making 18-year-old Canadian Connor McDavid the as-expected top overall pick.

But the true intrigue was provided on the second day of the event, when the New York Islanders selected high school prospect Song Andong in the Sixth Round, making him the first player born in China to be drafted into the league.
