Torrential rains lash east, south China

Rounds of heavy rains have swept large parts of China, triggering floods and causing damage.

In Bengbu, east China’s Anhui Province, about 100 cargo ships were stranded in Xingang port as the water pooled the operation area and three fourths of roads.

A staff from a container terminal company said about 2,000 tons of goods have been transferred, but the flood still caused a direct loss of five million yuan.

In south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, a downpour hit the city of Guilin causing a sudden rise of the Lijiang River in a few minutes. Five residents were trapped in a park when they were fishing. Rescuers arrived at the scene and managed to save them after a five hour effort.

Downpours started to hit Luocheng County on Wednesday evening, flooding farmlands, destroying roads and houses and causing landslides in several places.

According to local meteorological department, new rounds of heavy rain will arrive in the next couple of days.
