The Heat: Tensions high as negotiators work towards nuclear agreement with Iran

The Heat

Tensions spill over in Vienna as negotiators miss another deadline to strike a nuclear deal with Iran. Are they close to reaching an agreement? CCTV’s Nathan King brings us a preview

Amid reports of frayed nerves and acrimonious exchanges, including one earlier this week between U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, Secretary Kerry announced late Thursday that talks will continue in Vienna to reach a comprehensive nuclear deal with Iran. The announcement comes after it became clear negotiators would fail to meet a deadline to present an agreement to the U.S. Congress by Friday morning Vienna time.

  • Hillary Mann Leverett, a visiting scholar at Georgetown University and a former U.S. negotiator with Iran shares her perspective.
  • From Vienna is Mohammad Marandi, the Dean of the Faculty of World Studies at the University of Tehran to explain the ramifications from his point of view.
