Eagerly anticipated Minions on display in Shanghai

The yellow, loveable henchmen known as Minions from the popular animated film “Despicable Me” are causing a flurry of excitement in China.

The exhibition “Bello China!” showcases the characters from the new spin-off film “Minions,” which has been hailed the second-biggest opening for an animated film ever, after “Shrek the Third.”

The Minions first appeared in the “Despicable Me” movies as a supporting role, but their huge popularity scored them a starring role in their own film.

“Despicable Me 2” earned nearly $1 billion in global box office, and made more than $300 million in China. With “Minions” taking home $115.2 million in North America alone over the weekend, expectations are high on China’s release.

The exhibition is being hosted at the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai from July 11 to Aug. 16.
