Cuba experiences economic boom ahead of US embassy opening

On July 20th, the United States and Cuba will formally restore diplomatic relations. It ends decades of attempts by Washington to isolate the Caribbean nation internationally. It’s taken seven months of tough negotiations for the sides to agree to reopen their embassies. In the meantime, European tourists, politicians and businessmen have been rushing to Cuba. They’re hoping to get there before the Americans do. CCTV’s Michael Voss filed this report from Havana.


Anne Pascale Krauer Muller on Cuba and US relations

Cuba and the United States are expected to open embassies next week. Currently, the U.S. does has a sizeable diplomatic presence in Havana, working out of what’s called an “Interests Section,” rather than an embassy. Without an ambassador, it is officially under the protection of Switzerland. CCTV’s Michael Voss spoke to Anne Pascale Krauer Muller about her country’s role in Cuba- U.S. relations. She is the Swiss Ambassador to Cuba.
