Alibaba’s online healthcare unit faces customer doubts

According to its latest financial report, Ali Health’s losses increased by 159 percent over the previous fiscal year.

The company says the deficit was caused by the high cost expanding its services. Starting in 2014, Ali Health began investing in its cloud hospital Yidiegu (医蝶谷, which launched three months ago. It aims to offer clients an online one-stop medical service from diagnosis to follow-up, and is to be one of Ali Health’s major business. While the new business model sounds innovative, however, people are not buying it.
