The Caribbean island of Hispaniola is divided into two sovereign countries: The Dominican Republic and Haiti. For decades, Haitians have been illegally crossing the border into the Dominican Republic in search of work and basic survival. Recently, the DR’s government decided to put a stop to it and implemented a plan to legalize some of the undocumented Haitians and push others back to their home nation. It’s causing a migration crisis between the two countries.
