The International Olympic Committee is due to choose the host city for the 2022 Winter Olympics at its 128th session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday, July 31.
If successful, Beijing will become the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games.
As Chinese President Xi Jinping put it, the cornerstone of Beijing’s bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics is that it would inspire “300 million Chinese to participate in winter sports.”
The bid committee has also promised a frugal plan, with a total budget of slightly over $3 billion, split between games, operation, and infrastructure construction.
