In a few weeks, the world will mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. The battle for Shanghai began on August 13th, 1937, when the Japanese army attacked the city.

The fighting lasted more than three months. As the fighting dragged on, only one Chinese battalion was left to hold off the enemy, the “800 heroes”, defending Sihang Warehouse. CCTV’s Shi Wenjing filed this report.

More details:

  • The warehouse provided cover for the retreating Chinese forces. To reduce losses, only one battalion was left to fight the enemy.
  • A song called “Eight Hundred Warriors” was composed to honor the soldiers’ defense of the warehouse.
  • The battle site has been restored as a memorial to the war and serves as a reminder of the importance of peace.
